After a prolonged downturn, Bangladesh’s stock market is showing signs of recovery as both indices and trading activity gained momentum on Sunday, the first working day of the week.

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) recorded a daily turnover of Tk1,296.43 crore, not only the highest this year but also the largest single-day turnover since August 11, 2024.

At the other bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), the majority of listed companies’ shares and units also saw price gains, resulting in a notable rise in the overall index. However, trading volume declined slightly.

On Sunday, trading began with most companies’ share prices moving upward, which immediately pushed the indices higher. This upward trend continued throughout the session as the majority of shares maintained gains, and by the end of the day, all major indices closed higher.

At the close, the DSEX benchmark index added 76 points to settle at 5,594. The DS-30 index, tracking the top 30 large-cap stocks, advanced 36 points to 2,193, while the DSE Shariah Index rose 20 points to 1,227.

Market breadth was positive, with 201 issues gaining, 141 declining, and 56 remaining unchanged.

Turnover at the DSE also increased significantly, amounting to Tk1,296.43 crore, compared to Tk1,132.31 crore in the previous session. This marks an increase of Tk164.12 crore from the previous day’s trading.

This was the highest single-day turnover since 11 August 2024, when the DSE recorded a turnover of Tk2,010.08 crore. Since then, no single day has crossed the Tk2,000 crore mark.

Among individual companies, Lovello Ice-Cream led the day’s turnover with Tk36 crore in trades, followed by Robi Axiata at Tk32.70 crore and BRAC Bank at Tk27.84 crore.

At the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), the CASPI index gained 232 points. Out of 260 traded issues, 160 advanced, 70 declined, and 30 remained unchanged.

Turnover, however, slipped slightly to Tk23.15 crore from Tk24.24 crore in the previous session.
