Jahangirnagar University’s Election Commission has decided to make dope tests mandatory for all candidates contesting the Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) and hall union elections, scheduled to be held on 11 September.

Confirming the matter on Tuesday evening, Prof Md Moniruzzaman, chief election commissioner, said, “At the views-exchange meeting on JUCSU held on 31 August, the majority of candidates demanded mandatory dope tests for all contestants in the central and hall union elections. After analysing the overall feedback, the Election Commission has decided to implement the proposal.”

He added that a letter has already been issued to the university administration, requesting it to take necessary steps to ensure dope tests for all candidates.

Earlier, at the views-exchange meeting, organised by the Election Commission on 31 August, most of the candidates expressed strong support for introducing dope tests for all contestants in the JUCSU and hall union elections.
