Jatiya Party Co-Chairman Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa has announced that Awami League supporters with clean reputations and no criminal or violence-related charges will be eligible for party nominations if they join Jatiya Party ahead of the upcoming national elections.
Speaking as chief guest at a divisional representatives’ meeting of Rangpur metropolitan and district units on Saturday, Mostafa warned that the upcoming national polls could be questioned if the government fails to control mob violence.
The meeting was also attended by party presidium member SM Yasir and other district and metropolitan leaders.
“If an Awami League supporter has no cases against him and we consider him a qualified candidate, why wouldn’t we give him the nomination? We certainly will. To overcome our candidate crisis, this is something we must do,” Mostafa said.
He further explained, “If we find someone stronger than our own party candidate, who has a clean image and no signs of violent involvement, we will definitely give him the nomination. In places like Faridpur, Gopalganj, and other districts where Awami League enjoys overwhelming support, if clean-image individuals join Jatiya Party, they will receive nominations.”
