Jatiya Party has dismissed remarks made by its Co-Chairman and former Rangpur City Corporation Mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, who recently suggested that Awami League leaders and activists with a “clean image” could receive Jatiya Party nominations if they joined the party.
In a press release issued to the media on Saturday, the party clarified that Mostafa’s comments were his “entirely personal opinion” and carried no party endorsement.
“He has no authority to make such statements,” the release said.
The party further stated that it has not yet made any final decision on whether, or in what manner, it will participate in the upcoming national elections.
“In this situation, Mostafa’s remarks risk creating confusion among the public and in different quarters,” the release added.
The Jatiya Party also urged Mostafa to refrain from making any future comments on policy or decision-making matters concerning the party.
