The University Teachers Network has once again placed a 10-point set of demands to ensure transparency and fairness in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and Hall Union elections, voicing concerns over possible irregularities in the process.

The organisation made the demands at a press conference held at Madhur Canteen of Dhaka University on Sunday noon (7 September).

Speaking at the briefing, leaders of the University Teachers Network said they had independently observed the 2019 DUCSU elections and documented several irregularities.

This year as well, the platform has been making repeated proposals to the administration to safeguard the election process.

While some measures have been partially implemented, many key issues still remain ignored, they noted.

The 10-point demands include:

1. Strengthening security without closing entrances, with a clear disclosure of who controls entry.

2. Involving female teachers in the identity verification of female students.

3. Ensuring transparency in the appointment of polling officers.

4. Extending voting hours until 5 pm.

5. Allowing polling agents to remain inside polling centers.

6. Publishing guidelines for media personnel and polling agents.

7. Deploying teachers and officers to manage queues outside booths.

8. Taking strict action against rumor-mongering or spreading false information.

9. Arranging rest rooms for observers and agents.

10. Holding the administration accountable if there is any lack of transparency in the election process.

The teachers emphasised that a fair and credible election is essential to uphold the democratic spirit of Dhaka University and urged the administration to take immediate steps to implement these measures.
