The Chamber Judge Court has stayed a High Court order that reinstated the candidacy of Amartya Roy for the Vice-President (VP) post in the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) elections, effectively upholding the cancellation of his nomination.
The polls will go ahead as scheduled on 11 September, Advocate Shishir Manir confirmed on Tuesday evening.
He said, “The honourable Chamber Judge Court has stayed the High Court’s order regarding the JUCSU election. Accordingly, the JUCSU election will be held on 11 September.”
Earlier, a High Court bench comprising Justice Md Mojibur Rahman Mia and Justice Biswajit Debnath had directed the authorities to reinstate Amartya’s candidacy following a writ petition filed on his behalf.
Advocate Manjur Al Matin Pitom argued in favour of the petition. The Chamber Court heard the appeal against that order on Tuesday afternoon.
Speaking to The Daily Sun, Amartya Roy said, “I have lost my candidacy due to the negligence of the university administration.”
He added that future steps would be taken in consultation with his panel.
