Magistracy power of armed forces extended by 60 more days

Magistracy power of armed forces extended by 60 more days

The interim government has once again extended the special executive magistracy powers of the three armed forces by two more months to help ensure law and order across the country.

The extended period starts on 12 September, according to the Ministry of Public Administration notification issued in this regard on Thursday.

According to the notification, Army, Navy, and Air Force officers holding ranks equivalent to an army captain and above can exercise these powers for the specified period.

In addition, the government also extended the magistracy powers to officers on deputation in the Bangladesh Coast Guard and the Border Guard Bangladesh.

Since the measure was first introduced for two months on 17 September last year, the government has repeatedly extended the period by two months.

Officers empowered with special executive magistracy authority can take necessary legal actions for offences under sections 64, 65, 83, 84, 86, 95(2), 100, 105, 107, 109, 110, 126, 127, 128, 130, 133, and 142 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.
