A Dhaka court on Thursday sentenced Evaly’s Chairman Shamima Nasrin and Chief Executive Officer Md Rassel to three years’ rigorous imprisonment each in a fraud case.

They will also have to pay Tk10,000 fine or three months in prison, as per the sentence handed down by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Manirul Islam, confirmed the defence lawyer HM Ruhul Amin Molla.

As per the case statement, the plaintiff Abul Kalam Azad paid Tk23 lakh to purchase 11 motorbikes from Evaly’s ecommerce platform in 2021. As the consignment was not delivered on time, Abul Kalam sought a refund, but Shamima turned down the plea in this regard.

On 7 December 2023, Abul Kalam Azad filed the case with a Dhaka court, after repeatedly failing to collect his money or the intended products from Evaly.
