10 leaders of AL, affiliated bodies sent to jail

Three Dhaka courts on Tuesday sent 10 leaders of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations to jail in three separate cases filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act in the capital.
Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain, Metropolitan Magistrate Partha Bhadra, and Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque passed the orders.
The accused are – member of Awami League Central Committee Md Anisur Rahman; president of Amtali upazila Mohila Awami League Nusrat Jahan Lima; member of Patharghata upazila Jubo League Md Ripon; Awami League leader Md Nesar Ali; Chhatra League leaders Kazi Ainul Islam Ashiq and ASM Al Sonet; president of Manikganj Municipal Awami League Md Arshad Ali Biswas; vice-presidents of the Govt Titumir College Chhatra League Abhimanyu Biswas Abhi, Aminul Haque Faisal, and Md Belal Hossain Tuhin.
Court sources said four of the accused were produced before the court in a case filed with Banani Police Station, two in a case filed with Dhanmondi Police Station, and four in a case filed with Shajahanpur Police Station.
According to the case documents, the accused allegedly brought out processions in support of the Awami League in the Dhanmondi, Shajahanpur, and Banani areas of the capital to spread propaganda against the interim government and the state.
The police filed cases under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Dhanmondi Police Station on 1 September, with Shajahanpur Police Station on 19 May, and with Banani Police Station on 2 September in connection with these incidents.
