Tongi Fire: Warehouse Inspector Jannatul Naeem dies at Burn Institute

Warehouse Inspector of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Khandaker Jannatul Naeem (37), who was severely injured in the devastating chemical factory fire at Tongi, Gazipur, has died while undergoing treatment.

He breathed his last at 10:00 am on Saturday at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.

Jannatul Naeem was burned on September 22 while trying to extinguish the fire at a chemical factory in Tongi’s Sahara Market. Forty-two percent of his body had sustained burns. This information was confirmed in a press release from the Fire Service headquarters’ media cell.

The press release stated that four members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence were injured in the incident, of whom three have already died.

Firefighter Shamim Ahmed died while under treatment on September 23, followed by firefighter Nurul Huda on September 24. Now, Warehouse Inspector Jannatul Naeem has made the ultimate sacrifice for the country.
