Bashundhara Shuvosangho donates books to Chinton Public Library in Bandarban

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote reading habits and expand access to knowledge, Bashundhara Shuvosangho has donated a collection of books to the Chinton Public Library in Bandarban.
The book donation ceremony was held on Friday (3 Oct) inside the library premises at Gungguru Para, Ward No- 3, Kuhalong Union of Bandarban Sadar Upazila.
The event was attended by Md Farhad Sardar (PPM-Service), additional superintendent of police (DSB) of Bandarban, as the chief guest.
U Yi Sing Marma, coordinator of Bashundhara Shuvosangho for the Chittagong Hill Tracts region and president of the organisation’s Bandarban district branch, was present as the special guest.
Other attendees included Methui Ching Khiyang, president of Chinton Public Library; Robin Tonchongya, general secretary of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Bandarban; U Ong Sing Marma, organising secretary; Swarna Chakma, finance secretary; Uba Sing Marma, information and communication secretary; and Maitrimoy Chakma, office secretary, along with local dignitaries, students, and youth representatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Md Farhad Sardar said, “Knowledge is the power that drives change, and books are the storehouse of that knowledge. Libraries are the backbone of a nation’s development. The youth must cultivate a love for reading. Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s initiative is truly commendable and will play a vital role in promoting a culture of reading in Bandarban.”
Special Guest U Yi Sing Marma emphasised the transformative power of books, saying, “Books can enlighten a society. We want our youth to be thoughtful and use knowledge to build a better future for the nation. This donation to Chinton Public Library is part of that vision.”
Robin Tonchongya, general secretary of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Bandarban, added, “A book is more than printed words—it is a lamp of wisdom guiding generations. Establishing libraries in the hills means lighting the path toward an enlightened society.”
Finance Secretary Swarna Chakma remarked, “Books are not only a source of knowledge but also a catalyst for positive social change. We want young people to become more engaged in such creative and constructive initiatives.”
In his closing remarks, Methui Ching Khiyang, president of Chinton Public Library, expressed gratitude, saying, “This book donation from Bashundhara Shuvosangho will enrich our library and inspire readers with renewed enthusiasm.”
Guests at the event expressed optimism that this initiative will open a new chapter in fostering reading culture and intellectual development across Bandarban’s hill communities.
