Organisational Secretary of Chudanga District BNP Sofikul Islam Pitu has claimed that a smear campaign is being carried out wherever the BNP has strong support.
He alleged that efforts are being made to tarnish the party's image through falsehoods and conspiracies.
Pitu made these remarks at a press conference held at the Chudanga Sahitya Parishad Hallroom on Thursday, protesting what he described as a planned smear campaign by expatriate journalist Ilias Hossain.
In a written statement, he said, “Journalist Ilias Hossain has deliberately acted to implement the agenda of an anti-independence group. He has conspired with a newly emerging nomination aspirant from our party and his uncle, engaging in maneuvers to favor certain groups.”
He further stated that Ilias has targeted several BNP nomination aspirants with false accusations and propaganda. Among them is Sharifuzzaman Sharif, who was democratically elected as the general secretary of Chudanga District BNP by the party’s councillors.
Pitu added that both Sharif and his brother, Sahiduzzaman Torik, are being defamed.
The press conference was attended by Chudanga District BNP Organisational Secretary Khalid Mahmud Milton, Sadar Upazila BNP President Nazrul Islam Nozu, Chudanga Municipal BNP President Sirajul Islam Moni, District Women’s BNP President Raufun Nahar Rina, District Jubo Dal General Secretary Saifur Rashid Jhantu, District Chhatra Dal General Secretary Momin Malita, along with leaders from various levels of the BNP and its affiliated organisations.
