Bangladesh will look to make a strong statement when they take on table-toppers Australia in their next World Cup clash. Despite winning just one of their four matches so far and sitting sixth in the standings, the Tigresses have earned plaudits for their fighting spirit and competitive performances throughout the tournament.
Reflecting on Australia’s preparations, captain Meg Lanning’s deputy, Sutherland, said in a pre-match press conference that her side had studied Bangladesh closely, drawing on insights from a series played last year.
“I think we had a really good series against them a little over a year ago, which gave us some excellent insight. They’re coming out with a pretty similar team in this World Cup, so we’ve got some good intel and can also review the games so far,” Sutherland said.
She also highlighted the impact of Bangladesh’s young batter Shorna Akter, who impressed with her intent and aggression against South Africa.
“She definitely took the game on, which was against the grain a little compared to the rest of the innings. We’ve certainly looked at her and come up with some plans,” Sutherland added.
Although Australia remains unbeaten and Bangladesh sits sixth with only one win from four matches, Sutherland stressed that her team would not take their opponents lightly.
“We don’t take anyone lightly. We’ve prepped really well, and we have a good training session tonight ahead of tomorrow. Everyone’s ready to go,” she concluded.
