The Bangladesh Kabaddi team became the first among the country’s squads to depart for Bahrain ahead of the 3rd Youth Asian Games, scheduled from 22 to 31 October.
A total of 96 members — including 60 athletes, coaches, doctors, and officials — will represent Bangladesh across multiple disciplines. Among them, the Kabaddi contingent, featuring both men’s and women’s under-18 teams, was the first to leave, flying out of Dhaka on Friday night.
While the main competition begins on 22 October, some events will start earlier, including Kabaddi. The group-stage matches kick off on 19 October, with the finals scheduled for 23 October. The Bangladeshi Kabaddi team is expected to return home on 24 October after completing their event.
Bangladesh will also compete in athletics, swimming, weightlifting, badminton, taekwondo, golf, judo, wrestling, cycling, boxing, basketball, and table tennis. According to team sources, athletes from athletics, boxing, basketball, golf, and taekwondo are set to depart on 21 October, while cycling competitors will leave on the day of the opening ceremony.
The opening ceremony of the 3rd Youth Asian Games in Bahrain on 22 October marks another milestone for Bangladesh’s young athletes. The Games return after more than a decade, with the previous edition held in Nanjing, China, in 2013, and the inaugural event in Singapore in 2009.
Kabaddi, which was not included in the first two editions, makes its debut this year. Bangladesh will field both under-18 men’s and women’s teams, eager to make history on the continental stage.
