A Dhaka court on Thursday ordered the freezing of 39 bank accounts of former chairman of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC Md Obayed Ullah Al Masud.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz passed the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the ACC’s application, these 39 accounts hold a balance of Tk64.21 lakh, which is in the name of Obayed Ullah Al Masud and his family.
The ACC stated in the application that an investigation is ongoing against Obayed Ullah and his family members over allegations of various irregularities, corruption, and embezzlement of bank and depositors’ funds, as well as suspicious transactions in bank accounts under their names.
It deemed necessary to freeze the bank accounts of them, as credible indications of money laundering have been found, ACC added.
