BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has said that his party does not engage in politics by giving false promises or misinterpreting religious sentiments.
“BNP does not trade in religion. But a certain party is belittling its own faith to please another country,” he alleged.
He made these remarks on Friday afternoon at a courtyard meeting in West Malibagh.
The meeting was presided over by Arifur Rahman Arif, former organising secretary of Dhaka South BNP. Among others, Ashraful Islam, convener of Ramna BNP, and Shamim Hossain, a member of the unit, along with local BNP leaders and activists, were present.
Mirza Abbas further said, “We must all remember one thing — the perpetrators of genocide have fled after plundering the country. They destroyed banks, insurance firms, and other financial institutions, crippling our economy. Their goal was to paralyse and destroy Bangladesh. But it would be a mistake to think they are completely gone.”
He accused certain political forces of conspiring over the upcoming election, saying, “Those who have no chance of winning are plotting against the polls. Knowing that BNP’s victory is inevitable, a few parties are now colluding with the fascist Awami League. We will not allow the rise of fascism in Bangladesh again.”
