In a vibrant celebration of cross-cultural exchange, the School of Overseas Education (School of Foreign Languages) at Sanming University has launched a weekly English and Chinese Corner. With the theme “Building Bridges of Friendship Through Language,” the activity provided an informal, interactive platform for communication and cultural exchange.
The event is designed to help Chinese students improve their spoken English, especially in preparation for IELTS, while supporting international students in developing their Chinese language proficiency and adapting to campus and local life. By moving communication from “textbooks” into real-life conversation, the language corner encourages confidence-building and mutual understanding.
The launch was attended by faculty leadership, including Liu Jingmiao, Party Secretary of the School of Overseas Education (School of Foreign Languages), and Lu Min, Dean of the School. They were joined by numerous other Chinese and foreign teachers who participated in the discussions, offering guidance and encouragement to the students. They emphasised that language is a bridge that connects people, deepens friendships, and expands worldviews.
The English–Chinese Language Corner will be held weekly and will continue as a long-term initiative, further broadening students' international vision and fostering a harmonious, inclusive campus environment at Sanming University.
The inaugural event brought together a diverse group of foreign teachers and students from Bangladesh, Russia, Indonesia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Mali, Uzbekistan, and other countries, alongside their Chinese peers, creating a vibrant, internationally diverse atmosphere.
Through group discussions, cultural storytelling, and language practice activities, participants gained new perspectives and built genuine friendships.
