A man was killed in a violent clash between two rival groups over local dominance at Birampur village in Sadekpur Union under Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Nasir Uddin, 65. The incident occurred around 5:30am when supporters of the Sachu and Harun groups clashed with each other, police said.

Local residents said tensions had been brewing between the two groups for a long time over establishing supremacy in the area.

On Saturday morning, members from both sides, wearing helmets and life jackets and armed with locally made weapons, engaged in a fierce confrontation. Nasir Uddin sustained severe injuries and died on the way to hospital.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Azharul Islam of Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station said police rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.

Additional forces have been deployed in the area to prevent further violence, he added.

“The situation is now under control, and efforts are underway to identify those involved in the clash,” the OC said.
