Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Wednesday urged voters to properly apply their voting rights in the February general elections as the nation’s fate depends on it.

The nation’s fate will improve only if the people choose candidates based on their honesty, qualifications and sanctity in the upcoming elections, he said but did not seek votes for any particular party, including his own.

Everyone else, irrespective of their beliefs or party affiliations, should also work actively during the vote casting process to ensure the voters can take part in a free, fair and neutral environment, Dr Shafiqur added while speaking at a grassroots party event in Sylhet.

The event was held at Mayurkunja Convention Hall in Sylhet-1 constituency. Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer, Sylhet city unit chief Fakhrul Islam, Central Majlis-e-Sura Member Mawlana Habibur Rahman, and others also spoke at the event.

The elections would be a pivotal event in the country’s history, the Jamaat chief noted.

If Jamaat is voted to power, it would build a discrimination-free, corruption-free and humanitarian country. There would be no distinctions among people, while elected leaders would operate above nepotism and corruption, he said.
