The interim government has urged political parties to reach a unified position on the implementation of the July National Charter or the proposed reform agenda, as disagreements among parties continue to delay progress.
Following a decision made at last Sunday’s meeting of the Advisory Council, political parties were called upon to hold discussions among themselves and provide a joint directive to the government. However, four days have passed, and no visible progress has been made in inter-party talks.
In light of this, the government has begun informal internal discussions on possible next steps, while expressing hope that political parties will soon arrive at a collective decision.
Addressing a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Thursday after the Advisory Council’s meeting, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed reporters on the government’s stance regarding the issue.
When asked whether there had been any formal discussion in the Council meeting about the progress of the July Charter’s implementation, the press secretary replied, “Some unofficial discussions are taking place. The parties were given seven days to reach a consensus. If they fail to make a decision within that time, as the law adviser previously said, the interim government will proceed to make its own decision. Preparatory meetings are already being held in this regard. Still, we hope that the political parties will come to a decision on their own.”
Shafiqul Alam added that the election process has already gained momentum and that “the entire nation is now eagerly waiting for the upcoming elections.”
