The stage is set for one of Asia’s biggest sporting events as the Teer 24th Asian Archery Championships 2025 begin on Saturday in Dhaka. The week-long competition will continue until November 14, with matches scheduled at the National Stadium and Army Stadium.
A total of 209 archers from 30 countries will battle across 10 medal events in the recurve and compound categories. Among them are 92 female archers, marking a record level of women’s participation.
Bangladesh earned the hosting rights after edging out China 14–10 in the final vote — securing the privilege for the third time, after hosting successful editions in 2017 and 2021. With government support and the sponsorship of City Group’s Teer, the Bangladesh Archery Federation has ensured top-tier arrangements for participants, including athletes from crisis-hit nations such as Palestine, Syria, and Yemen.
Among them is Rasha Yahya Ahmed from Palestine, who expressed her gratitude: “This is my first time in Bangladesh, and from the moment we arrived, everyone has been so kind and welcoming. The arrangements here are world-class — I see no difference from what I’ve experienced in South Korea.”
For the home side, all eyes will be on Abdur Rahman Alif, Sagor Islam, and Bonna Akter, as Bangladesh look to rebound from a medal-less campaign in 2023. Recurve archer Sagor Islam said, “This competition is being held on our home ground, so many things will work in our favour. We’ve trained hard all year and want to bring smiles to our people’s faces.”
Coach Martin Frederick also sounded optimistic: “I have faith in my archers. They are eager to make amends after Bangkok and perform well this time.”
Adding to the excitement, the opening day will feature the Asian Archery Congress at the Hotel InterContinental, where elections will decide the next President of Asian Archery — capping off a historic start to a landmark event for Bangladesh.
