As explosions echo across Gaza and families mourn their loved ones, four Palestinian archers have arrived in Dhaka—carrying not just bows and arrows, but the pain, pride, and unbreakable spirit of an entire nation.
They have come to compete in the Teer 24th Asian Archery Championships, while their homeland burns under occupation. For them, every arrow shot is a silent prayer for peace, every breath on the field a defiance against despair.
The Palestine archery team, featuring three recurve and one compound archer, stands as a living symbol of resilience. Despite shattered training grounds, sleepless nights, and the fear that never leaves their hearts, they have chosen to represent their flag—to show the world that Palestine still stands, still hopes, and still dreams.
Speaking to the Daily Sun in Dhaka, Dr. Maan Barakat, President of the Palestinian Shooting and Archery Federation, shared a deeply emotional account of their struggle and their gratitude.
“Every day we see killing, bombing, and destruction in Palestine. Athletes, sports teams—everyone is suffering, especially in Gaza,” said Dr. Barakat. “Despite everything, we are here to represent our people, our athletes, and our country. It’s our commitment and our hope to continue until the end—to keep fighting and to achieve something for the Palestinian people.”
Even reaching Bangladesh was an act of courage and faith, made possible through the support of Bangladesh’s sporting community.
“To be honest, without the support of the Bangladesh Archery Federation, we wouldn’t be here today,” he said. “They organized everything for us, and we are deeply thankful. Special thanks to Mr. Ghazi Shabul for his strong and heartfelt support to Palestine and Palestinian archery.”
Asked about their goal in the championship, Dr. Barakat paused, then said softly—
“It’s very difficult to train in Palestine. The situation is complicated. But we have the hope and determination to continue. Our dream is to reach the Olympics one day—and, Inshallah, to win a gold medal.”
Palestinian archers have already shown their potential.
“In 2024, at the West Asian Archery Championship in Iraq, our compound team won a bronze medal—both in team and individual events,” Dr. Barakat recalled. “We are improving step by step, trying to give our best every time.”
At the 24th Asian Archery Championships, as their arrows cut through the calm Dhaka air, they carry not just the hope of victory—but the voice of a nation that refuses to be silenced.
"To represent Palestine is a big honor for all of us,” Dr. Barakat concluded. “We will keep trying, and Inshallah, we’ll bring back a medal this time—for our people, for our homeland, and for peace.”
