CHITTAGONG: A mobile court of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) in a drive fined three lighter vessels Tk 70,000 on different charges on Wednesday.

CPA Executive Magistrate Rokeya Parvin conducted the drive.

The court awarded financial penalty to the vessels – MV Mohiuddin Jabbar, MV Jahanara and MV Banglar Man, on charge of blocking the port channel, running without master, lacking permission for bay-crossing and overloading.

The mobile court also realised port dues of Tk 782,000 from five lighter vessels during the drive.

Meanwhile, three dwelling houses were gutted as a fire broke out at Khowaj Nagar area under Karnaphuli Police Station in the city early Wednesday.

Sources said the fire broke out from oven in kitchen at a semi-pucca house in the Khowaj Nagar area at around 1:45am. It spread fast engulfing adjoining two other houses.

Sarwar Jahan, operator of FSCD Control Room in Agrabad said two fire fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the fire after one and a-half hours efforts.
