Case filed, husband shown arrested

A case was filed on Wednesday over the “suicide of a woman who killed her two young children before taking her own life” in Chhoto Diabari area of Mirpur on Tuesday.


Nadira Begum, the mother of the woman, filed the case with Darusslam Police Station accusing her son in-law Shamim instigating the suicide and the murder.


Inspector (investigation) Farukul Alam confirmed the matter.


Shamim was detained on Tuesday on suspicion of his involvement in the incident. He was shown arrested in the case.


Later, police took him to the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Pronob Kumar Hui with a prayer of two-day remand. The court adjourned the hearing till today.


Mentionable, a woman reportedly committed suicide after slaughtering her two children inside their house at Chhoto Diabari in Mirpur area of the capital on Tuesday.


The deceased were identified as Anika, 22, wife of Shamim Hossain, and their children – Shamima, 5, and Abdullah, 3.


Locals informed police that they didn’t get response from the family of Shamim inside his home at noon.


“The police broke into the house and found their bodies around 2:45pm,” said assistant police commissioner Mamunur Rashid.


A suicide note was also found.


Police suspected that the mother killed her two children before she hanged herself from the ceiling.
