Turnover at DSE hits 65-month high

The key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) crossed 5300-point mark on Wednesday with turnover hit a 65-month high.

Following the last trading day, the total turnover of the country’s premier bourse stood at Tk 1704 crore which was Tk 1696 crore on the previous session.

DSEX- the key benchmark of the DSE- rose to 56.48 points or 1.07 percent to close the day at 5333 points.

The other two DSE indices also edged higher on the fourth trading day of the week. The DS30 comprising blue chips advanced 13.70 points or 0.72 per cent to close at 1908 points while the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 5.43 points or 0.43 per cent to close at 1245.85 points.

Analysing the market it was seen that the index started the session with a positive mode reaching 5300 points during the first hour of the day. Then the key index fell down for a moment to 5280 points and returned to the right track to end the day at 5333 points.

Among the prominent sectors, mutual funds led the top market cap gainers with 4.4 percent gain while IT sector led the top market cap losers with 1.2 percent loss. Mutual funds showed the highest turnover increase of 108.0 percent while telecommunication showed the highest turnover loss of 43.9 percent. Engineering had the highest contribution of 16.2 percent in turnover on Wednesday, said Sheltech Brokerage in its daily market analysis. Beximco Limited topped the turnover chart for the third consecutive sessions closely followed by Ifad Autos, Aman Feeds, Desco Limited and RSRM Steel.

Premier Bank was the day’s most gainer while Aramit Cement was the top loser of the day. Of the total issues traded on the DSE, prices of 194  advanced, 117 declined and 15 remained unchanged.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also followed the same trend with its major CASPI index rising 155.47 points to end the day at 16,403 points.

The total turnover of the port city bourse rose to Tk 96.95 crore.
