Madrasha founder stabbed in Ctg mosque

CHITTAGONG: A madrasha founder was stabbed while offering Magrib prayer in a mosque at Fatichhari upazila in the district on Monday evening.


A youth identified as Salauddin was caught red-handed after the incident.


The injured was identified as Hafez Md Shah Alam Nayeem Ashrafi, 60.


Local sources claimed that he was ‘pir’ of a Darbar Sharif and founded several madrashas.


However, Officer in-Charge (OC) Abu Yusuf Mian of Fatikchhari police station said the victim was founder of a madrasha, but not ‘pir’.


The attacker Salauddin stabbed him while he was offering Magrib prayer inside a mosque in Paindong area under the upazila, said the OC.


Salauddin ageing around 22 years was caught from the spot, he said.


Injured Hafez Shah Alam was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital and undergoing treatment there.


The OC said the arrestee was being quizzed to reveal cause behind the attack.
