BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday demanded ‘unconditional’ release of his party vice chairman Barkatullah Bulu.
Expressing deep concern over sending Barkatullah Bulu to jail after rejecting his bail prayer, Mirza Fakhrul in a written statement said the opposition has now been subjected to repression.
“The current regime is persecuting the opposition by arresting its leaders in false and politically-motivated cases in a bid to wipe out the opposition,” he said.
The BNP secretary general also demanded withdrawal of the ‘fabricated and false cases’ against Barkatullah Bulu and other BNP leaders.
In separate statement, BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed, vice chairman Mohammad Shahjahan, BNP chairperson’s adviser Zainul Abdin Farroque, joint secretary general Mahbub Uddin Khokon and organizing secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shamim also demanded immediate withdrawal of the case against Barkatullah Bulu and his unconditional release.
Meanwhile, addressing a press conference at Nayapaltan central office, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that the government is ‘throwing BNP senior leaders to jail by filing false cases’.
He also protested and condemned the arrest of Barkatullah Bulu and demanded his immediate release after withdrawal of the ‘false’ case against him.
