BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed on Friday said the ruling Awami League (AL) fears that they will be defeated if the next general election is held in a free and fair manner.

“AL must be defeated if a fair election is held. That’s the reason why they fear to arranging a fair election,” he said.

The BNP leader came up with the remarks at a discussion organised by Bangladesh Ganatantrik Sangskritik Jote at the National Press Club in the capital.

Claiming that BNP is ready for participating in the election at anytime, he said, “People’s voting rights will have to be given back. That’s the reason why we are talking about polls-time government who will have no political interest.”

Moudud alleged that social crime has been on the rise in the country day by day, as ‘police are being used to beat up opposition men’. “AL is using police for political and personal purpose,” he added.
