Eid shopping peaks in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA: Eid-shopping has gained momentum at all the shopping markets in the district as the holy Eid-ul-Fitr is knocking at the door, reports BSS.
Sources at different markets said people from all walks of life are now crowding into different markets, including Salimar Super Market, Islam Plaza, Tarafdar Mansion, Quazi Tower, Poura Market, Shapla Market, Station Road and Elicha Market of the district town, with great enthusiasm to buy their clothes and other necessary.
The rush in the markets is at its peak as officials and the employees of both government and non-government organisations have already received their salary and festival allowance, said Assistant Director of district narcotic department Abdul Majid.
To grab attention of customers, authorities have decorated markets with colourful illuminations, said Abul Kalam Azad, one of the owners of Salimar Super Market. Saris are on the top of the demand for female customers while Punjabi and fatua are for male customers, Mahmuda Begum, housewife.
She also said, “I will buy a tant sari for me and a Panjabi for my husband for the upcoming Eid.”
Mahim Sarker, an employee of Islam Plaza, said, “Three- piece, including tight pajama is also very popular among young girls” Apart from this, jeans, trousers, fashionable shoes and short punjabi are also favourite among youngsters, he added.

A large number of makeshift shops have been set up on the pavements of the roads where the buyers mostly of middle income group and low-income group are found shopping.
The law enforcing agencies have taken adequate measures for maintaining law and order in the towns particularly, in markets to ensure safety of the shopkeepers and the buyers, said Superintendent of Police M Masrukur Rahman Khaled. Special squads of the elite forces RAB, police and other law enforcing agencies are also patrolling the towns round the clock to ensure security to the townspeople, the SP added.
