At least 322 people were killed and 759 others injured in 272 road, railways and waterways accidents during the Eid-ul-Azha, according to a report compiled by Passenger Welfare Association of Bangladesh (PWAB).
PWAB secretary general Mozammel Haque Chowdhury published the report on Wednesday at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity in the capital.
The road accident monitoring cell members of PWAB created the statistics monitoring 22 national dailies, 6 regional dailies and 10 online news portals in between August 28 and September 9.
During the period, 254 people were killed and 696 injured in 205 road accidents, 43 people were crushed under trains and 25 others were killed while 63 injured in 15 waterways accident.
Mozammel Haque Chowdhury said that the number of accidents and casualties were lower when people were leaving the capital and other districts to celebrate the Eid at home or other places. There were, however, more casualties during the return trips.
