The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested Md Abul Khair, former managing director of Padma Oil Company Limited (POCL), from his Gulshan residence in the capital on Thursday in connection with embezzlement of over Tk 3 crore.
“An ACC team, led by its assistant director Mohammad Sirajul Haque, in a drive arrested the former MD of Padma Oil early hours of the day in two graft cases”, said ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee.
On April 6, ACC filed the cases with Sadarghat Police Station in Chittagong city against seven people including four high-ups of the POCL on charge of embezzlement of the money from two projects of the state-run oil company.
POCL is a state owned petroleum company with its head office in Strand Road, Chittagong.
The others accused are POCL project director Md Ali Hossain, director of Maxwell Engineering Workshop Limited, Fahim Zaman Patan, POCL deputy general manager and project director Md Nurul Amin, its engineer KM Abdul Rahim, deputy manager Saleki Uddin Aynul Akkashi and owner of M/s Md
Yunus and Co. Anisur Rahman. The arrested Abul Khair was named in both cases.
According to one of the two cases statement, the Maxwell Engineering Workshop Limited in connivance with Abul Khair and Ali Hossain swindled out about
Tk 2.75 crore from the Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of Aviation Fuel (ZA-1) Hydrant System project at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka in fiscal 1995-96.
The another case statement mentioned that M/s Md Yunus and Co. in collusion with officials of Padma Oil Company Limited misappropriated over Tk 32 lakh in constructing a three-storey building at its Daulatpur Depot in Khulna, showing extra works in 1996.
