Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday directed her party lawmakers to go to their respective constituencies and work for the people to win the upcoming general elections.
“Go to the constituencies and take preparations for the polls by reducing the internal conflict,” said a lawmaker quoting the premier as saying during a meeting of the Awami League Parliamentary Party at her office at Sangsad Bhaban.
“Stop the mud-slinging against each other and work together,” she said.
Hasina, also the president of the ruling Awami League, asked the lawmakers to go to the people to project the success stories of the government and highlight the BNP-Jamaat’s firebombing.
“I firmly believe that people will accept you as we have carried out massive development in the country,” she said.
Issuing a note of warning against the activities of some ministers and lawmakers, she said that she had a list of their performances.
“I monitor the activities of the ministers and lawmakers every day. Those who will be involved in conspiracies will not get the nomination,” she said, asking them to brighten their images among the people.
Referring to BNP’s tenures, the premier said though they were in office, they failed to carry out the development activities like the AL.
Taking the floor, some young lawmakers urged the party president to nominate them again so that they would remain a part of the ongoing development.
“The nomination will be given based on the opinion of the grassroots,” the AL chief said.
Sources said Tofail Ahmed, engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Atikur Rahman Atik, Iftekhar Uddin Pintu, Shamim Osman and Abdur Rahman Bodi, among others, also spoke at the meeting.
