LAKSHMIPUR: As part of drive to conserve Hilsa fish, the coast guard members detained four fishermen along with 10 mounds of Hilsa fry from Meghna River, reports UNB.

The detainees are Md Sadek Hossian, Faruk Hossain, Jakir Hossian and Md Momin Ullah, all of them hailing from Bhola district.

The law enforcers, in a drive on Thursday morning, also seized three fishing boats for catching fish fry defying ban, said Sunil Chandra Mazumdar, senior assistant director of district fisheries department.

The coast guard and fisheries department said in a bid to boost Hilsha output, the government imposed eight-month ban on catching fish fry, including jatka (Hilsa fry), from November 1 to June 30 in the Meghna River.
