CHITTAGONG: Nafis, who was killed during an anti-militant drive by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in the capital’s Pashchim Nakhalpara area on January 12, went missing from the port city around three and a-half months back.
Nafis Ul Islam, son of Nazrul Islam of the city’s Chawkbazar area, was class XIII student of Kazem Ali School and College, in the city’s Goni Bakery area.
Rab headquarters released pictures of two unidentified militants killed in the drive on Thursday night.
Members of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) identified one of two militants as Nafis.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-CTTU) AHM Humayun Kabir of the CMP said they identified Nafis after release of his picture by Rab.
Nafis went out of his residence on October 6 last year and remained missing since then, said the ADC.
His father filed a general diary (GD) with the city’s Chawk Bazar police station on the following day.
ADC Humayun said they came to know about Nafis’s involvement with militancy when they carried out investigation following the GD.
In search of Nafis, a team of the CTTC carried out a raid at a building in the city’s Purba Madarbari area on January 1, he said.
Two operatives of Neo-JMB identified as Ashfaq and Rakibul were arrested from the den with explosives and explosive making materials. But, Nafir was not there during the drive.
The arrested Neo-JMB operatives had plan to blow off Sadarghat police station in the city as part of their subversive activities, said the CTTC officer.
After releasing the photo on Thursday night a team of the CTTC went to the Nafis’s residence and showed picture to his parents.
They identified Nafis as their missing boy.
Mentionable, acting on a tip off, the elite force Rab carried out drive in a militant den in the capital’s Pashchim Nakhalpara area on January 12.
Following the drive, bodies of three militants including Nafis were recovered from the den.
One of the militants was identified as Zahid alias Mezbah Uddin, son of Enamul Hoque of Comilla district.
