A decade after the Chak De girls made it famous in cinema, hockey seems to have caught the fancy of filmmakers yet again. The latest to exploit the sport for the big screen is Mom (2017) director Ravi Udyawar, who, we hear, is casting Ajay Devgn for a drama based on the sport.
The ad-filmmaker-turned-director already has a story in place with Mom producer Boney Kapoor backing him on this venture too.The team is currently discussing terms with Devgn. He has heard the story, and negotiations are underway. Should he agree to come on board, he will explore the sports-drama genre for the first time.
Devgn, with Rajkumar Gupta's Raid, Indra Kumar's Double Dhamaal and Akiv Ali's untitled next in his kitty, will have to decipher whether this film can be accommodated in his busy schedule.
Casting for the remaining characters is yet to commence, we hear. The sport will be a regular on cinema screens this year, with Akshay Kumar apparently playing a hockey coach in Reema Kagti's Gold, and Diljit Dosanjh slipping into the role of hockey champ Sandeep Singh for Shaad Ali's biopic Soorma. —Mid Day
