A Dhaka court on Tuesday sent three accused, including two officials of the education ministry, to jail rejecting their bail petitions in a corruption case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Ziaul Islam passed the order after sub-inspector Firoz Islam investigating the corruption took them before the court. The three are education minister’s personal officer Motaleb Hossain, upper division assistant (UDA) of the ministry Nasir Uddin and owner of Lakehead Grammar School Khaled Hasan Motin.
The court also ordered transfer of the case to Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for deciding next course of action.
On Sunday night, members of detective branch arrested Nasir Uddin with Tk 1.3 lakh in Gulshan area in the capital. Nasir’s disclosure of information led to the arrest of two others in different areas of the city.
Later on Monday, police filed a case in Banani Police Station against the three on charges of corrupt transaction.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Tuesday said the two education ministry officials will be suspended.
“The suspension order will be in force until the completion of the trial,” Nahid told reporters at a press conference on the preparations of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Examination-2018 in his secretariat office in the capital.
He said the ministry will take steps against them as per rules and regulations after the trial ends..
