RANGPUR: Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad said his party will take part in the next general elections even if BNP does not participate in it.
He said that people are losing confidence in the government.“We are not with anyone. We will nominate single candidates in 300 parliamentary seats,” he said at the council of Rangpur district unit of Jatiya Party at Rangpur Public Library ground on Sunday. Mashiur Rahman Ranga was elected the president and Fakruzzaman Jahangir general secretary at the second annual council.
Ershad also said that BNP is now in big trouble. “BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has been imprisoned on charges of corruption. I doubt as to whether BNP will be able to participate in the next election,” he said.
Ershad said his party will be voted into power if the election is free and fair.
Earlier on Saturday, while talking to local journalists at Rangpur Circuit House, Ershad said his party has demanded 70 seats, including all 22 seats of greater Rangpur, from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and subsequently 10 to 12 ministries.
“If AL does not meet our demand, Jatiya Party will pick candidates for all 300 constituencies in the next elections,” he said.
He said, “Though I was innocent, the government of Khaleda Zia threw me in jail without granting bail for five years.”
