RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) on Monday launched a drive to free the street-sides and footpaths from illegal occupation on Monday as part of its efforts to make the city clean, reports BSS.

Police conducted the drive at Shaheb Bazar area, main commercial hub of the metropolis. All illegal occupations from Zero point to Moni crossing were evicted.

Aman Ullah, Officer-in-Charge of Boalia Model Police Station, said the small businessmen and vendors erect illegal infrastructure on footpath, even on the main roads, regularly making the road dirty. The unauthorized occupation of the roads and footpath also causes traffic jam badly side by side with hindering the pedestrian movement.

In phases, police will evict all illegal occupation on roads and footpaths for the sake of freeing the city from traffic jam coupled with reducing the people sufferings, the police officer added.
