NARSINGDI: A court here on Monday convicted six people of killing a trader here in 2003 and sentenced them to life imprisonment, reports UNB.
The convicts are Anwar Hossain, 32, Mosharraf Hossain, 35, Firoz Miah, 40, Zilhas alias Juhash, 30, Ataur Rahman, 50, and Akbar Ali, 42, of Kurerpar village in Sadar upazila. Of them, Mosharraf and Firoz were tried in absentia.
The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more in rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the body of Golap Hossain, a trader, was found in 10 pieces on the bank of the Brahmmaputra River in Kurerpar area on January 21, 2003, three days after he went missing.
Victim’s brother filed a case with Sadar Police Station in this connection.
Police arrested the convicts and they made confessional statements before the court..
