Dinajpur, Nilphamari book semis berth

Dinajpur and Nilphamari booked the semi-final spot from group ‘B’ from the senior category on the sixth day of Bashundhara Kings Cup Football Tournament 2018 at Rangpur District Stadium in Rangpur on Wednesday.

Dinajpur, in the first match defeated Nilphamari by 2-0 goals in a dominant manner. Nonetheless, Nilphamari secured their spot in the semi-final after winning the first two matches of the tournament.

In the Under-12 category, young footballers from Dinajpur and Nilphamari clinched the semi-finals spot from the group ‘B’.

In the first match of the day, Nilphamari won against Dinajpur by 1-0 goal. Though Dinajpur lost the game but they confirmed the semi-final spot as the second team of the points table considering their rankings.

Later, the match between Kurigram and Lalmonirhat ended in a goalless draw much to the dismay of the crowd.

The semi-finals of the tourney will start from May 11 at the same venue.

The biggest football tournament of Rangpur Division, Bashundhara Kings Cup Football Tournament-2018 began on Friday (May 4) in Rangpur aiming to restore footballs’ lost popularity. The eight districts of Rangpur division are participating in the tournament.

The contest will conclude on May 14 with winners of junior and senior categories. In senior category, the winner of the tourney will get Taka 3 lakh while runners-up will receive Taka 2.5 lakh. In under-12 category, the winner will award Taka 2 lakh whereas runners-up will be given Taka 1.5 lakh.
