State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hmaid said around 86.5 percent power consumers are satisfied with the supply situation in the country.
The minister came up with the remark at a seminar on “Power for Human Development” organized by MBA Association at a local hotel on Wednesday last.The country has already witnessed the highest 10,699MW of electricity generation on Saturday last, thanks to the new addition of electricity from the costly power plants.
He pointed out that the country needs about US$82.5 billion for investment in power sector to increase power generation to meet the country’s growing demand. By this time, he said, the government has already invested about US$22 billion.
The state minister said that the government also put emphasis on development of skilled manpower as well as improvement of consumer services. He pointed out that huge skilled manpower will be required for overcoming the challenges in power and energy sector.
The government is encouraging investment in private sector; he said adding that around 50 percent of investment has come from private sector.
MBA Association president Nazmul Hazan Papon MP, Power Cell director general Mohamemd Hossain and Dhaka University IBA Professor Farhad Anwar also addressed the meeting.
