Chattogram district administration continued eviction and evacuation drive from risky slopes and bottoms of hills to avert recurrence of casualty in landslides in the port city.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-Revenue) Delwar Hossain led the drive on Wednesday that was carried out at the AK Khan Pahar and PWD Colony in Batali Hill since morning.A total of 45 houses were demolished and 100 families were evacuated to safer place during the drive.
ADC Delwar said they started the drive so that people do not fall victim to landslides.
A total of seven shelter centres were opened for the people having to alternative accommodation in the city, he said.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) Abdullah Al Mansur of Sadar circle assisted the drive.
It may be mentioned that at least 12 persons, including four members of a family, were killed in separate landslides during heavy rainfall in Rangamati and Cox’s Bazar districts on Tuesday.
