At least eight people were killed and 28 others were injured in separate road accidents in Cumilla, Madaripur, Habiganj, Chattogram, Narayanganj and Patuakhali on Tuesday.

In Comilla, one person was killed and eight others were injured after a bus crashed into the motorcade of former minister and BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, according to our Cumilla correspondent.

“The deceased was identified as Jewel Prodhan, an activist of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD),” Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Daudkandi Highway Police Station, told the media.

The accident took place when a bus of Shyamoli Paribahan crashed into the motorcade at a turn in Amirabadh area of Comilla around 12:30 pm, the OC informed.

In Madaripur, a man was killed and 10 others were injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Barishal highway in Pantapara area under Kalkini upazila at around 4:30 am.

“The deceased was identified as Rabiul Islam, 35, a bus driver,” Afzal Hossain, sub-inspector of Bhanga Highway Police Station, told the media.

In Habiganj, two motorcyclists were killed as their motorbike plunged into a roadside ditch on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Rokanpur in Nabiganj upazila, reports UNB.

The deceased were identified as Nurul Islam, 26, son of Ahsan Ullah and Sabuj Ahmed, 20, son of Abdur Rahim of Jaintapur upazila.

Nirmal Chandra Bhoumik, officer-in-charge of Sherpur Highway Police, said the accident took place at around 6:00 am when the motorbike fell into the roadside ditch, leaving two riders dead on the spot.

Police recovered the bodies and sent those to the local hospital morgue, he said.

 

 

A female college student was killed being hit by a running bus in front of Holy Crescent Hospital at Khulsi in Chattogram. A first-year honours student of Chattogram Government Women’s College, Tithi was run over by the bus while crossing the road at around 1:30 pm.

She was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Tithi was the daughter of Sadhon Barua of Isamati village under Rangunia upazila.

Meanwhile, two people were killed and 10 others injured in head-on collision between a bus and Laguna at Rupganj in Narayanganj.

The accident took place at Khadun point of Dhaka-Sylhet highway at around 11:00 am.

The deceased include Sohel, the driver of the Laguna, and son of Harun Mia of Ronagol area of Chandpur. The identity of another victim could not be confirmed till filing of this report.

A pedestrian was killed being hit by a motorcycle at Kolapara in Patuakhali on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Gafur Khan of Gamritola village under Nilganj union Parishad.
