Amid much festivity and fanfare, the International Day of Yoga 2018 is going to be celebrated in Dhaka like elsewhere around the world today.

The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has taken all preparations to hold celebrations at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital this morning.

It’s expected that more than five thousand yogis will attend the celebrations this year.  The celebrations will continue from 6.00am to 8.00am and it will feature yoga demonstrations, mass yoga session and a lucky draw segment.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader will attend the event as the chief guest.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor and State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr Biren Sikder will be there as the special guests.

Apart from them, yoga exponents, celebrities and senior officials will also be present on the occasion.

Only seven hundred yogis had joined the celebrations in 2015 and the number reached 1500 the following year.

About five thousand people attended the celebrations last year and it’s expected that more people will come to the event this year than the last one.

Entry to the event is free and all participants will receive, on first-cum-first-served basis, free yoga mats, t-shirts and gift hampers and a chance to win attractive prizes in the lucky draw.

Prizes in the lucky draw include a Tata Tiago car, a Bajaj Motorcycle, a holiday package to a destination to India, a trip to Delhi for a couple and a hospitality package for a couple in a five star hotel in Dhaka.
