Police recovered two bullet-hit bodies of drug peddlers from Monirampur upazila in Jessore early Sunday.

Identities of the deceased, both aged around 30, could not be determined till filing of this report at 1:42pm.

Police sent the bodies to Jessore General Hospital morgue.

A team of law enforcers conducted a drive in the area at around 5:00am as they had been tipped-off about a gunfight between  two rival groups of drug peddlers, said Mokarrom Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Monirampur Police Station.

The criminals fled the spot sensing the presence of the law enforcers, leaving the two bodies behind, the OC said.

With the latest addition, the number of dead in the ongoing nationwide anti-narcotics drives rises up to at least 159.
