Six persons were killed in separate road accidents in Narayanganj, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday and Wednesday.
In Narayanganj, two people were killed, as a truck collided head-on with a pickup in Rupganj upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.The victims were identified as Mizan Halder, 45, an inhabitant in Dumki upazila of Patuakhali, and driver of the pickup Abid Hassan, 23, a resident in Naria upazila of Shariatpur. Mizan Halder was the owner of the pickup.
In Chattogram, two persons were killed in separate road accidents in the city and district on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
The deceased were identified as former teacher Nirod Baron Nath, 70, of Sitakunda upazila in the district, and Md Khokon, 45, of Char Jabbar upazila in Noakhali district.
A speeding bus knocked elderly Nirod while he was crossing on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Barobkunda Bazar area under Sitakunda upazila at around 11:00am on Wednesday.
The accident left him injured critically and he was rushed to the Upazila Health Complex, said Md Masud Alam, In-charge of Kumira highway police outpost.
The schoolteacher succumbed to his injuries on his way to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), he said. On the other hand, Khokon was killed when a bus knocked his rickshaw from behind in Moijjartek area under Karnaphuli police station in the city at around 10:30pm on Tuesday.In Cox’s Bazar, two persons were killed and another was injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a microbus at Chakaria upazila in the district on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as the microbus driver Liton, 25, son of Motiur Rahman, and his helper Saidur Rahman, 20, son of Matiar Rahman, both hailed from Jashore district.
However, the identity of the injured could not be known immediately.
Sources said the accident took place at around 9:30am when the passenger bus of ‘Star Line Paribahan’ collided head-on with the Cox’s Bazar-bound microbus carrying fish-fry on Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway in Khutakhali Darga Bridge area under the upazila.
The accident left the microbus driver killed on the spot while the helper succumbed to his injuries on the way to a local hospital, said Alamgir Hossain, Inspector of Malumghat highway police outpost.
