Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Wednesday expressed grave concern over the disclosure of important and sensitive information relating to the state by President Mohammed Shahabuddin in a recent interview published in a national daily.
In a statement floated for the media, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar said the president was the highest constitutional post in the country and that every word and action of the person holding the office carried immense significance for the nation.
The position of the president was directly linked to the constitutional oath and the principle of maintaining state secrecy, he said.
“By publicly disclosing internal and confidential state matters in the recent interview, the president violated his oath and failed to safeguard the trust vested in him regarding state secrets,” he alleged.
He said the interview has raised several
questions, debates and anxiety among the people.
Golam further said that the president’s remarks created fresh controversy and uncertainty in the country’s political arena.
“Such statements from the head of state have confused the nation on issues related to the constitution, state oath and constitutional continuity,” he said.
