In an unscheduled meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman personally heard the grievances of a group of BCS (health) cadre officials who have been deprived of promotions.
According to the Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman, a group of BCS (health) cadre officials visited the Secretariat in the afternoon. They sought an appointment with the
premier to outline their long-standing experiences of administrative deprivation, complex bureaucratic hurdles, and their legitimate demands for professional redress.
“But, before any formal meeting could take place, they unexpectedly got an informal opportunity to meet the prime minister. During the brief meeting, they handed over their written application directly to him. The premier received the application with modesty without any formalities,” he said.
During the informal interaction, Ruman said the officials shared their longstanding grievances, including administrative disparity, promotion complications and humanitarian concerns, with the prime minister.
“The honourable prime minister listened to them attentively and assured that the matter would be considered with importance,” he added.
According to the formal application submitted to the prime minister, a total of 1,821 BCS (health) cadre officials have been identified as victims of prolonged promotion deprivation.
The officials claimed that despite meeting all the necessary qualifications, seniority requirements, and administrative conditions, they were denied promotions during the previous interim government’s tenure without any legitimate justification.
Consequently, an irregular administrative imbalance has developed, where many junior officials have been promoted and are now serving in superior positions over their more senior colleagues.
