The government has moved to review wholesale and retail electricity prices in response to rising fuel costs and increasing power generation expenses, with a high-level cabinet committee formed to oversee the process.
A gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division on 9 April was published on its official website on Monday.
According to the notice, the committee has been tasked with preparing proposals to adjust electricity tariffs in order to address mounting pressures in the energy and power sector amid the current global situation.
The committee will be chaired by the finance minister. Its members include the minister for power, energy and mineral resources and the commerce minister.
Secretaries from the Finance Division, Power Division, and the Energy and Mineral Resources Division will also serve on the panel.
Under its terms of reference, the committee will conduct a detailed review of the existing situation and develop specific recommendations on revising wholesale and retail electricity tariffs for submission to the cabinet.
The committee will meet as required, with administrative support to be provided by the Power Division.
