A Dhaka court on Wednesday granted a three-day remand for Md Nuruzzaman Nomani alias Ujjal, who is accused of helping Faisal Karim Masud  ̵ an alleged assailant in the attempted murder of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi  ̵ escape by arranging a hired microbus.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order after police produced Nuruzzaman before the court, seeking a five-day remand.

Public prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruqui told the court that the accused allegedly aided Faisal by providing a vehicle and that the remand is necessary for further investigation, as the weapon has not yet been recovered.

During the hearing, Nuruzzaman said he runs a rent-a-car business and had known Faisal for about nine months but had not met him in the past three months. He claimed Faisal contacted him via WhatsApp to hire vehicles and made payments through bKash.

“On the day of the incident, he suddenly asked me to send a vehicle, and I did so because it is my business. I could not have known what he intended to do with it afterwards,” he told the court.

The court granted a three-day remand, directing Nuruzzaman to cooperate further with the investigation.

Earlier on Tuesday, Faisal’s close aide Md Kabir was placed on a seven-day remand in connection with the case. Three more accused linked to Faisal—his wife Saheda Parvin Samia, friend Maria Akter Lima, and brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Sipu—are currently on five-day remand.

On 14 December, Inqilab Moncho Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed a case with Paltan Model Police Station, accusing the suspects of attempting to kill Sharif Osman Hadi.

Hadi was shot and critically injured on 12 December on Box Culvert Road in the capital’s Paltan area.

Police reviewing CCTV footage found that while Hadi and his associate were travelling in a battery-operated auto-rickshaw, two assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on him. The attackers were later identified as Faisal Karim Masud, who fired the shots, and Alamgir Sheikh, who rode the motorcycle.
